While some folks are afraid that artificial intelligence will replace them in the workplace, others are already finding ways to generate income using popular AI tools like ChatGPT.
Many of the ways you can make money with the help of ChatGPT have yet to be discovered. The AI chatbot hasn't been around that long for people to discover its true potential. One thing is for certain - the more you experiment with it, the more use cases you'll find.
You can use ChatGPT in various ways to generate income, either for your own business or for someone's company. I've always been an advocate for transparency, so make sure that you tell your boss or client that you plan on using this AI tool to do your job.
I'm aware that there are so many ChatGPT skeptics right now, but you should explain how you use the tool to enhance your performance. Industries are going to continue evolving, and knowing how to use AI tools is just another useful skill you can add to your resume.
If you want to get great results when you use AI tools, you must know how to come up with the right prompts. Some companies are already opening job positions for people who excel at creating prompts for tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, and DALL-E. People with this skill are referred to as prompt engineers, and they can make a great living off of their knowledge.
It takes time and a lot of experimenting to become great at thinking of prompts. If you already have a certain skill like social media marketing or content writing, it'll be easier for you to generate income using ChatGPT without having to come up with complex and detailed prompts.
Here are some ways to make money with ChatGPT.
1. Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing involves a lot of competitive tasks. You have to write extremely short-form content for different platforms and capture the attention of potential customers. It's normal if your efficiency as a social media marketer goes down after a while due to a decrease in inspiration.
If you start using ChatGPT to search for inspiration for social media posts, you'll be able to become more productive. Here's an example of how you can use the OpenAI chatbot for social media marketing.
As you can see, I wrote that I work for a cosmetics company and that we're about to release a new line of shampoos called Fructus. I asked ChatGPT to write five tweets and five Instagram post descriptions to promote this new line of shampoos. In the image above, you can see the tweets it generated.
I really like that the chatbot included emojis in each tweet, since they really captured my attention. The combination of the fruits is also perfect. It also included a few hashtags in each tweet, which I think is important to have when you're marketing new products.
What about the Instagram post descriptions? You can see those in the image below.
The descriptions for the Instagram posts are amazing. The fourth description hits the nail on the head in my opinion. It's the perfect description for promoting a new line of shampoos with fruity-smelling formulas. I'm very impressed with the results ChatGPT gave here.
Although it should be obvious, I must mention that you should only use the chatbot for inspiration. Make sure to add your personality and make any necessary changes so the marketing material better fits your company. This is how you can benefit from using ChatGPT as a social media marketer.
2. Content Writing
There are different ways to use ChatGPT for content writing. Unless you're an expert in a certain field, chances are that you'll cover various topics as a content writer. It's normal to occasionally become overwhelmed when your job is to write content. In most cases, all you need is a little push in the right direction to get your creative juices flowing.
With the help of ChatGPT, you can get the push you need. Let's say that you have to write an article about yoga and meditation, and how these activities can have a positive impact on mental health. You can see an example of the article by simply telling the chatbot to write it and mentioning a specific word count. Yes, ChatGPT can write entire articles.
I set the word count to 500, but the chatbot wrote 634 words. This is completely okay since I would never just copy and paste an article from ChatGPT, nor should you. But what is okay is to make changes so that it captures your tone, trim it down or expand it, and fact-check it.
The chatbot can sometimes provide excellent content with correct facts. Other times it can be way off. That's why it's important to search for sources online to ensure that the content is correct.
You can also do incredible research through conversations with ChatGPT, even for complex topics.
You can ask the chatbot to provide you with either detailed or concise answers to pretty much any question you have. It's amazing how much you can save researching by using ChatGPT in this way.
There are additional ways to leverage the AI tool for content writing. For instance, you can ask it to create an outline for an article you have to write. This will essentially give you the blueprint for the article and will save you a lot of time planning.
I asked ChatGPT to write an outline for an article about the health benefits of vitamin K, and you can see the result it generated in the image above. It's quite impressive!
3. Translation Services
According to a study published by AI researchers at a Chinese multinational technology and entertainment conglomerate and holding company called Tencent, ChatGPT can do a great job translating text from English to another commonly spoken language (Spanish, German, Chinese, etc.) and vice versa.
Most of the training data for the chatbot was in English. It will likely take at least a few updates before ChatGPT is able to translate perfectly from one language to another regardless of how commonly they are spoken.
Here's an example of how to use ChatGPT to translate text.
As you can see, I asked it to translate text it generated as an answer to a prompt from the previous section of the article to Spanish, German, and Chinese.
To generate income from translation services with ChatGPT, you should still be a good speaker of the language you want to translate to or from. OpenAI's chatbot will simply save you a lot of time and make you much faster and more efficient at your job.
4. Resume Writing
Many people become nervous when they have to write a resume for a job position they're applying for. That's why many people online make a good buck by writing resumes for others. You can do the same, but your output can be bigger than almost any other writer with the help of ChatGPT.
The AI-powered chatbot is amazing at writing resumes. This is something I already wrote about in my article on how to prepare for a job interview with ChatGPT. In case you have an important interview for a job soon, you should definitely check that article out.
The amount of time you save by using the chatbot OpenAI created to write resumes is insane. You simply write a prompt telling the chatbot to write a resume for a certain profession and then you fill in all the blanks with the information your client provided you. Make sure to also proofread the resume to ensure there are no grammatical or factual errors.
You can see an example of a resume written by ChatGPT for a web designer. The image above shows only the first half of the resume. Check out the image below for the other half.
This is a pretty good template that you can build off of. You only need to combine it with specific information your client gives you and you'll finish the whole task quickly. Once you get used to writing resumes with ChatGPT, you can generate a solid income. Keep in mind that since you won't spend as much time writing as other people, you can charge competitive rates and still make more money than most resume writers.
5. Publish Recipes
Who said that AI-powered chatbots aren't good cooks?
This is a fun thing you can do with ChatGPT. Ask it to write recipes and publish them on your food blog. Here's a recipe that the chatbot generated for me when I wrote a prompt detailing I was hungry and mentioned the ingredients I had.
This is a simple but tasty recipe. You can give ChatGPT any combination of ingredients and tell it to use a certain number of them to create a recipe and it will do it. Each recipe comes with detailed instructions, which is perfect. It means that apart from proofreading and making small changes to ensure it'll be a tasty dish, your only job will be to publish the recipes online.
6. Create ChatGPT Courses
I already talked about how some companies have started looking for prompt engineers. In most cases, you can make a great salary as a prompt engineer. But what could be even more lucrative is to educate people online about how to use ChatGPT.
This will require a bit of preparation on your part. You will have to learn the ins and outs of ChatGPT and understand how it can be used in different industries. You'll also have to master the art of making prompts.
What's great is that the AI chatbot has been around only since late November 2022, which means not many people have had the chance to become experts at using ChatGPT. This means that you won't have a lot of competition.
There's no doubt that there is a huge demand for ChatGPT courses at the moment. People can become more efficient at their job if they learn how to use this AI tool. They are willing to pay for a course that demonstrates how the chatbot can be used.
If you've never created a course before, take the time to research how you can make one. It's important to create engaging content and encourage your students to practice their skills. If you find a way to do this, you'll have many happy students.
7. Make Ads & Slogans
ChatGPT can help you come up with great ads and slogans. You can enter a detailed prompt to generate an interesting ad idea or just give it a simple description of what you're looking for.
I asked the chatbot to create a concept for a 30-second video ad for a juicer called Juic-E (I know, not very creative on my part). The idea it generated was great. Better than 90% of the stuff I see when I turn on my TV once every three months.
On the other hand, here's what you can expect from ChatGPT when it comes to generating slogans.
I asked it to generate only one slogan for an electronics store. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it generated 10 potential slogans. Even if you don't end up using one of the slogans ChatGPT generates, you can use the ideas for inspiration to come up with the perfect one.
Final Thoughts
ChatGPT is an AI tool that can easily be used to generate income. You can use it to build your own business if you're an entrepreneur. Freelancers can leverage the chatbot to become more efficient and take on additional gigs. You can even use ChatGPT to boost your productivity at the company you work for and negotiate a higher salary. To summarize, you can use the following ways to make money online using ChatGPT:
- You can leverage ChatGPT to help you with social media marketing activities
- It can help you write website/blog content
- If you offer translation services, ChatGPT helps you translate faster
- You can offer resume writing services
- You can create a blog and publish food recipes, which you can create with AI's help
- If you have advanced knowledge of ChatGPT, you can create a course for beginners
- It can help you come up with ads and slogans for brands.
This type of technology was only recently made available to the general public. Some people haven't yet discovered creative ways to use ChatGPT to generate income. But if you have any repetitive tasks in your job, you can likely use this chatbot to complete them while you focus on more important assignments.
You can use ChatGPT even if you do creative work, such as marketing and writing. Just remember to thoroughly inspect what the chatbot did and tweak it a bit to add your personal touch to the work.
