Midjourney unlocks your ability to learn and practice design in multiple fields using only natural language.
Some people have a vivid imagination but are unable to design what they see in their mind. But they can perfectly describe each detail of what they imagine. For these people, Midjourney is one of the best products ever released. Now they have a way to express themselves.
I'm a person who has a knack for painting pictures with words. But give me a canvas either in real life or in a piece of design software, and I won't be able to produce anything good.
Regardless of whether you're a talented fashion designer or an aspiring one, Midjourney can help you work on fashion concepts. One of the best things about this text-to-image AI model is that it enables you to create a design in less than a minute. It's insanely good at quickly producing visual representations of ideas.
If you want to develop or practice fashion design skills, you'll be extremely happy with what Midjourney has to offer.
How to Write Midjourney Prompts for Fashion
The most important thing to remember about writing Midjourney prompts for fashion design is that they should generate photorealistic images. In case you don't know how to create images like this, I suggest you read my article on Midjourney prompts for realism.
In most cases, you'll be able to create a photorealistic image just by describing what you imagined. But I don't like to take chances, which is why I always mention in my prompts that I want to see a photorealistic result.
I'll be using Midjourney v5.2 to generate fashion design images. At the time of writing this article, v5.2 is the latest iteration of the Midjourney text-to-image model.
When you're writing prompts for fashion design, it's important that you use the right terminology. You want to include the right terms in your prompts in order to get good results. If you need to brush up on the terminology, I recommend you take some time to read a fashion dictionary. This will drastically improve the quality of the generated output for your prompts.
You can create both portraits and landscape images when you're writing Midjourney prompts for fashion. If you want to make portraits, you should use either a 2:3 or a 3:4 aspect ratio. On the other hand, a 16:9 aspect ratio works best when you're creating landscape images.
I will personally be creating images with a 3:4 aspect ratio for this article because I feel like that format is the best when you want to showcase outfits. That's just my preference though; you can use any aspect ratio that you want.
10 Midjourney Prompts for Fashion
I'm going to share 10 prompts for fashion design today. Roughly half of these designs are for women's clothing while the remainder is for men's clothing. You can feel free to use my prompts to improve your Midjourney skills.
If you don't have a lot of prompting experience in Midjourney, simply begin by making slight edits to my prompts to see how it will affect the generated output. Once you do that several times, you can start coming up with your own prompts.
/imagine photorealistic image, young male model showcasing a casual and relaxed summer look, wearing a lightweight linen shirt, tailored shorts, and canvas sneakers --ar 3:4 --v 5.2
This is a laid back summer look that I feel would be appealing to a lot of young men. This is something I'd wear on a sunny day. The only thing that's missing is a nice pair of sunglasses.
/imagine photorealistic image, young female model wearing an elegant winter ensemble that features a wool coat, a cashmere turtleneck sweater, tailored trousers, and knee-high boots --ar 3:4 --v 5.2
This is an incredibly stylish outfit! I like how I didn't have to mention the colors of the different clothing items but Midjourney still made a very good combo. I also like how the background is generated in a way that makes both the model and the outfit look even cooler.
/imagine photorealistic image shot with Canon EOS R5, young male model wearing a rugged and outdoorsy outfit that includes a plaid flannel shirt, straight-leg jeans, and a denim jacket --ar 3:4 --v 5.2
You might see me wearing something like this during autumn. I personally prefer the colder months. I dress really simple during the summer, but when it gets colder that's when I start showing my fashion sense.
/imagine photorealistic image shot with Canon EOS R6, young female model with a modern and edgy street style look, the model is wearing a graphic t-shirt, a moto jacket, and leather leggings --ar 3:4 --v 5.2
This is a special type of vibe right here. Real modern street style clothing. I absolutely love the combo. Love seeing leather leggings on a woman. Love the urban moto jacket, and really like the graphic shirt.
/imagine photorealistic image, young male model wearing a classic outfit that includes a button-down Oxford shirt, chinos, a knit cardigan, and a leather belt --ar 3:4 --v 5.2
I'm going to be honest - you'll probably never see me wearing an outfit like this. However, I do find it quite stylish even though I personally don't like wearing clothes like this. I'm more into an urban and relaxed kind of style.
/imagine photorealistic image, young female model wearing a sleek, modern cocktail dress with a fitted silhouette and a deep V-neckline, glamorous outfit --ar 3:4 --v 5.2
This was a really simple concept that I felt needed to be included in this article. It's also the shortest prompt in the whole article. This is the type of dress a woman should wear when going to a special event. It's simple yet insanely attractive.
/imagine photorealistic image of a young male model wearing a dapper and modern formal ensemble that consists of a tailored black tuxedo, a crisp white dress shirt, and a black bow tie --ar 3:4 --v 5.2
This outfit is basically the male version of the women's dress you saw in the previous image. It's a sharp, formal ensemble that should be worn only when you're going to an important event.
/imagine photorealistic image shot with Canon EOS R5, full body portrait of a young female model wearing a bohemian-inspired summer outfit that includes a flowy maxi dress with floral prints and a wide-brimmed hat --ar 3:4 --v 5.2
I have to say that this AI model is absolutely stunning. The dress is also just as I imagined it when I was writing the prompt. I love the little floral details in the background that add context to the overall outfit.
/imagine photorealistic image, full body portrait of a young male model wearing a navy blue shirt, leather denim jacket, slim-fit jeans, and suede Chelsea boots --ar 3:4 --v 5.2
Now, this is a great combination. All of the clothing items complement each other beautifully. The outfit itself is very simple. It's something you'd likely imagine a stylish young man from a rural area wearing. Maybe even an up-and-coming country singer.
/imagine photorealistic image, full body portrait of a young female model wearing a sophisticated, chic workwear ensemble that includes a tailored blazer, high-waisted trousers, and a silk blouse --ar 3:4 --v 5.2
Work attire has to be elegant in my opinion, unless you work at a company where everybody dresses casual. As long as you're looking for a sophisticated ensemble, this is something you should consider. It makes you look professional but also showcases your fashion sense.
Final Thoughts
You can make some beautiful fashion designs in Midjourney. Whether you want to create a design for an intricate high-fashion dress or a simple windbreaker jacket, all you have to do is write a few lines of text and the AI model will do the rest.
It'll be interesting to see what type of impact artificial intelligence will have on the fashion industry in the future. In my opinion, the impact will be quite big. There's no doubt in my mind that some designers are already using this technology to experiment with different concepts.
Although the Midjourney AI model learns from existing images, there is something about it that enables it to sometimes create a design concept you'd rarely see made by a human. This is quite exciting, as you never know what you'll get. Kind of reminds me of that famous Forest Gump line, but I'd have to change it a bit. What about "Life is like a generative text-to-image AI model. You never know what you're going to get"?
That's all for this article. Until next time, friends!
